Before submitting your Fire TV app to Amazon Appstore, use this checklist to verify every requirement. Missing even one item can delay your approval by days. This checklist is current as of 2026 and covers technical, asset, content, and testing requirements.
Fire TV has over 118 million active devices worldwide with only about 19,000 apps in the store. That is a massive opportunity — but only if your app passes review. Use this checklist to make sure it does on the first submission.
Technical Requirements
| Requirement | Value | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Target SDK | API 28+ (Android 9) | Required |
| Min SDK | API 22+ recommended | Recommended |
| Orientation | Landscape only | Required |
| D-pad navigation | Full remote control support | Required |
| Touchscreen | Not required in manifest | Required |
| Lean-back launcher | LEANBACK_LAUNCHER in manifest | Required |
| Banner image | 320x180 xhdpi in drawable | Required |
The most common technical rejection is broken D-pad navigation. Test every screen using only the Fire TV remote — no touch input, no mouse. Every button, link, and interactive element must be reachable with arrow keys.
Asset Requirements
- App icon: 512 x 512 PNG, no transparency, no pre-rounded corners (Amazon rounds them automatically)
- Screenshots: minimum 3, recommended 5-6. Resolution: 1920 x 1080 PNG or JPEG (landscape)
- Feature graphic: 1024 x 500 (used in store promotions and featured sections)
- Background image: 1920 x 1080 (displayed behind your app on the Fire TV home screen)
- Video preview: optional but strongly recommended — 30-second MP4 showing the app in action on a TV screen
Getting screenshot dimensions wrong is the second most common rejection reason. See common rejection fixes for the full list.
Content Requirements
- Title: max 250 characters, include primary keyword in the first 3-4 words
- Short description: max 1200 characters
- Long description: max 4000 characters, use bullet points for readability
- Keywords: up to 30 keywords, comma-separated
- Privacy policy URL: required if app uses ads, analytics, or collects any data
- Content rating: complete the IARC questionnaire honestly
Ad SDK Requirements
- Ads must not auto-play audio without user interaction
- Interstitial ads must have a visible, remote-accessible close button
- No ads on the first screen — wait for at least one navigation action
- Ad refresh rate: minimum 30 seconds between refreshes
- Banner ads must not overlap with navigation elements
Testing Checklist
- App launches without crash on Fire TV Stick (basic model — the lowest-spec device)
- All screens navigable with D-pad only — no touch, no mouse
- Back button works correctly on every screen (returns to previous, or exits app from main)
- App handles no-internet gracefully (show a message, do not crash)
- Text is readable from 10 feet away (standard TV viewing distance)
- Touch mode disabled — no touch-only UI elements visible
- App installs and runs on both Fire TV Stick and Fire TV Cube
- Ads load and dismiss correctly with the remote control
